Our non-fiction book club, the Kitaab Circle, will meet on July 29 to discuss Robert Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
We’re straddling the line between non-fiction and fiction with this 1974 “fictionalized autobiography” in which writer-philosopher Pirsig examines the nature of Quality. In other words, Pirsig is interested in the question that when we say something is good, how is ‘good’ really defined.
The philosophical discussions take place during a motorcycle trip the narrator is taking with his son and friends. Unsurprisingly, the ideas of ancient Greek philosophers make an appearance as Pirsig explores the divide between rational and emotional viewpoints.
Details of the meeting are as follows:
Day/Date:Saturday, 29 July 2017
Venue: Table Talk, Kohsar Market, F-6/3, Islamabad.
Hope to see you in a few weeks. Thanks!
